What interests me most about this photograph isn't how incredibly arresting the bows around "Claire's" wrists and ankles are. As so often with these pictures, the most interesting thing seems to me to be the way that essential thermeme harmonizes with other elements to make the picture as a whole something special.
The way Claire's face is out-of-frame--her face is beside the point (in my story, by her own loving choice, in giving herself to Philip). The whiteness of the luxurious bed against the blackness of the bows--Claire has given herself as a pure sacrifice. The way Claire is placed transversely--that is, not as a person using a bed as a bed is used, but as an object, awaiting a person to use her. The arrangement of her limbs to conceal her charms, since those charms are clearly reserved for the person to whom she is given.
